PURPOSE

Our purpose is to glorify God by conducting an autonomous, fundamental Baptist church in accordance with the Word of God, the Covenant, the Articles of Faith, and the Constitution of this local church; to preach and teach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Savior of men; to maintain public worship, to proclaim the gospel in spirit and in truth; to further the cause of Biblical missions at home and abroad; to administrate the ordinances of the New Testament; to edify the believers in Christ by instructing and training children, youth, and adults to be good witnesses for Jesus Christ and faithful stewards of Biblical doctrine; to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered unto the saints.

Article V — Articles of Faith

Section 1 — Of the Scriptures

We believe the Holy Bible as originally written is verbally inspired and the product of Spirit-controlled men and therefore is truth without any error. We believe the Bible to be the true center of Christian fellowship and the only standard for faith, doctrine, and all human conduct. We believe the Bible is the complete revelation of God.

II Timothy 3:16,17

II Peter 1:19-21

Revelation 22:18,19

Section 2 — Of the True God

We believe there is one, and only one, living and true God — an infinite Spirit, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressively glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — equal in divine perfection and executing distinct, but harmonious, offices in the great work of redemption.

Exodus 20:2,3                                     I John 5:7

I Corinthians 8:6                                 Revelation 4:11

Section 3 — Of the True Son, Jesus Christ

We believe in the absolute deity of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; that He existed from all eternity co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit; that He became man without ceasing to be God, having been supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, that He might reveal God and redeem mankind. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as our representative, substitutionary sacrifice, and our justification is made sure by His literal, physical, bodily resurrection from the dead. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of mediator, intercessor, and advocate.

Matthew 1:20                                      Philippians 2:5-8

Mark 16:19                                         Hebrews 1:3; 9:12

Luke 1:26-28                                      I Peter 2:24

John 1:1,2; 3:16; 10:30                       I John 5:20

Acts 1:9-11; 7:55,56

Section 4 — Of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature; that He was active in the creation; that in His relation to the unbelieving world, He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled; that He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; that He bears witness to the Truth of the gospel in preaching and testimony; that He is the agent in the new birth. We believe the baptism, indwelling, sealing, and sanctifying of the Holy Spirit is immediate upon trusting Jesus Christ as Savior and that He empowers, guides, teaches, witnesses, and helps the believer. We believe the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased in our day due to the completion of Scripture.

Genesis 1:1-3

Matthew 28:19

Mark 1:8

Luke 1:35; 24:49

John 1:33; 3:5,6; 14:16,17,26; 16:8-11

Acts 5:30-32; 11:16

Romans 8:14,16,26,27

Ephesians 1:13,14

Hebrews 9:14

Section 5 — Of the Devil, or Satan

We believe in the reality and personality of Lucifer, who became Satan; that he was created perfect but, because of pride and rebellion against God, he became the originator of sin and caused the fall of man; that he is the unholy god of this age, and the author of all the powers of darkness; he blinds the minds of unbelievers, opposes and accuses the believers, and is destined to the judgment of an eternal justice in the Lake of Fire.

Isaiah 14:12-17                                   Ephesians 6:11,12

Ezekiel 28:11-19                                 II Peter 2:4

Matthew 4:1-3                                    Jude 6

II Corinthians 4:4                                Revelation 20:10

Section 6 — Of the Creation

We believe the Biblical account of the creation of the physical universe, angels, and man; that this account is neither allegory nor myth, but a literal, historical account of the direct, immediate creative acts of God without any evolutionary process; that man was created by a direct work of God and not from previously existing forms of life; and that all men are descended from the historical Adam and Eve, first parents of the entire human race. We believe that the Bible specifically places man and woman in a Biblical, God-commanded relationship; that God instituted marriage between man and woman, as well as the family unit; that it is unscriptural to change or pervert this order; that homosexuality, lesbianism, or any other unbiblical relationship is contrary to God’s Word and not acceptable as an alternative lifestyle.

Genesis 1,2                             Ephesians 3:9; 5:22,23

John 1:3                                  Colossians 1:16,17

Romans 1:26,27                      Hebrews 1:2

Section 7 — Of the Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker but, by voluntary transgression, fell from his sinless and happy state, in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not only by constraint but of choice; that man is alienated from God, totally depraved, and of himself utterly unable to remedy his fallen condition, and therefore under just condemnation, without defense or excuse.

Genesis 3:1-24

Romans 1:18-32; 5:10-19

Ephesians 2:1-10

Section 8 — Of the Virgin Birth

We believe that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit in a miraculous manner; born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can ever be born of woman; that He is both the Son of God and God the Son.

Genesis 3:15                           Matthew 1:18-25

Isaiah 7:14                              Luke 1:35

Section 9 — Of Salvation

A. Atonement of Sin — We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God, Who, by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon Him human nature, yet without sin, honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made a full and substitutionary atonement for our sins; that His atonement consisted not in setting us an example by His death as a martyr, but was a voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place, the Just dying for the unjust, Christ the Lord bearing our sins in His own body on the tree; that having risen from the dead, He is now enthroned in heaven. He is in every way qualified to be the all-sufficient Savior.

Isaiah 53:4-7                                       II Corinthians 5:21

Matthew 18:11                                    Ephesians 2:8

John 3:16                                            Philippians 2:7

Acts 15:11                                           Hebrews 2:14

Romans 3:24,25                                  I John 4:10

I Corinthians 15:3

B. Grace in the New Creation — We believe in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; that it is instantaneous and not a process; that in the new birth, the one dead in trespasses and in sins is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, the free gift of God; that the new creation is brought about solely by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the gospel; that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance and faith and newness of life.

John 3:3,6-8                                        Ephesians 2:1

Acts 16:30-33                                      II Peter 1:4

Romans 6:23                                       I John 5:1

II Corinthians 5:17

C. Justification — We believe that the great gospel blessing which Christ secures to each believer in Him is justification (to be declared righteous); that justification includes the pardon of sin and the gift of eternal life; that it is bestowed not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s blood is His righteousness imputed to us.

Isaiah 53:11                                        Acts 13:39

Zechariah 13:1                                    Romans 5:1,9; 8:1

D. Faith and Salvation — We believe that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition of salvation.

Acts 16:31

E. Sanctification — We believe we are positionally sanctified (set apart) by the Holy Spirit when we are born again; that our lives are pleasing to God, and others see our practical sanctification as we study God’s Word and yield to the Holy Spirit; that we will be perfectly sanctified when we go to be with the Lord.

John 17:17                                          II Thessalonians 2:13,14

Ephesians 5:25,26                               Hebrews 2:11; 10:10,12,13

I Thessalonians 5:23,24                      I Peter 1:2; 3:15

F. Separation — We believe all saved should live to glorify God and not bring reproach upon our Lord and Savior; that separation from all religious apostasy (departure from Bible faith), all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations is commanded by God.

Isaiah 52:11

Romans 6:1,2,11-13; 12:1,2; 16:17

II Corinthians 6:14-17

II Thessalonians 3:6

II Timothy 2:19-21

I John 2:15-17

II John 9-11

G. Eternal Life and Assurance of Believers — We believe all who are born again are kept by God’s power and are secure in Christ forever; that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to sin.
